Activity Report (April 2001 to March 2002)

November 24 to 29, 2001 : A five-day zonal governing body meeting of ICITP-NEZ cum workshop on Capacity Building (PSP) was held at the Circuit House; Panbazar Guwahati where more than 14 affiliated zonal MOs’ leaders actively participated. Official handing and taking over of charges from the previous Governing Body to the New Governing Body was also organised prior to the capacity building programmes.

This meeting came out with some strong resolutions like initiating to strengthen the ICITP-NEZ by identifying initially 10 genuine Indigenous and Tribal NGOs from each states from North East to be affiliated under ICITP-NEZ, appealing states and central government and the militants to initiate peace process to bring back peace in the region. Welcoming the ceasefire of NSCN and BLT and the government of India and appealing the government of Assam and Manipur to stop the eviction against the Indigenous Peoples from their traditional forest inhabitants in the name of encroachment.

January 1 to 1 February 2002 : ICITP-NEZ has sent 4 youths from Senapati District of Manipur to participate a month long National Exposure Trip organised by 21 st Assam Rifle, Manipur under the aegis of Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt of India who had visited Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and participated actively in various programmes organised by the Ministry.

 March 8, 2002 : ICITP-NEZ in collaboration with the Highland Welfare Association and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Manipur, observed the International Women’s day with a seminar on “Political Rights and Role of Women in Tribal Society”. The Main speaker of the seminar was Mrs. Rose Mangti Hawkip, lecturer of G. P. Women’s College, Imphal, who urged the women participants to stand the Tribal Women on their own legs by empowering them selves in all respects challenging all the odds in their lives to develop their society.

March 18 to 22, 2002 : ICITP-NEZ in coordination with Highland Welfare Association, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kangpokpi, nominated 20 local youths to avail 5 days training programme on Fruit processing conducted by FOOD AND NUTRITION, Govt of India Imphal Branch. The participants gained scientific knowledge of fruit processing who were distributed certificates of participation.

March 20, 2002 : ICIP-NEZ observed the WORLD FOREST DAY where more than 200 participants took active participation. The function was co-organised by Village youth Club, Kangpokpi, Forest department, Highland Welfare Society and Nehru Yuva Kendra, Manipur. Additional D.F.O as Chief guest graced the function.
